This project started by Ernie Sota in the mid-seventies was recently completely rebuilt and has won a Certificate of Merit and Green Design Citation from the American Institute of Architects.  It has been featured in Pittsburgh Magazine in its "Spectacular Residence" issue along with publication in the arts and architecture magazine Azure and featured in an article about biophillic design in the New York Times.

Located in the urban South Side  neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the Riverside Mews Net Zero house is a part of Riverside Mews, a high density development of 32 units per acre, which is being built on a former brownfield site. All of the townhomes exceed Energy Star requirements. Typically the homes score in the low 50s. Thanks to a Walk Score™ of 91/100 and a Transit Score™ of 70/100, homeowners at Riverside Mews can enjoy both a sustainable residence and a sustainable lifestyle.

Built over several phases on a former brownfield site, the Riverside Mews features a total of 48 unique, upscale for-sale townhomes in Pittsburgh's trendy and eclectic South Side neighborhood. Designed by award-winning architects Perkins Eastman Architects and John Martine of Strada, this development has been designed to complement the rich architectural heritage of the neighborhood while creating a modern design and beautiful, light-filled living spaces.

Sota completed construction of a 10 bedroom residential home in the Fox Chapel area of Pittsburgh using Energy Star Certification. This home has a HERS score of 50, which means it uses approximately half of the energy of a home built to current energy code requirements.

Energy efficient measures include: high efficiency windows, spray foam Icynene insulation, 100% under-slab insulation, and high efficiency ground coupled HVAC system.
